What will space travel look like in 50 years? Enter our drawing contest!

9 January 2027

The Planetarium of the Royal Observatory of Belgium is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and to mark the occasion, we want to organize something special for our favorite audience.

If you’re in fifth or sixth grade of primary school, you can enter our drawing contest about the future of space travel! The winners’ drawings will be placed in our time capsule and won’t be retrieved until 50 years from now.

Draw for us what space travel will look like in 50 years (in 2076) and send us your artwork by mail before January 9, 2027, addressed to the Planetarium (Boechoutlaan 10, 1020 Brussels). Only flat drawings on A4 paper will be accepted; no three-dimensional crafts.

If you’re one of the 50 winners, we’d love to let you know. That’s why we’re asking you to write your name and an email address (your parents’, possibly both) clearly and legibly on the back of the drawing. Don’t forget to include your school and grade level. You’re also welcome to include any additional information about your drawing. The drawing must be done by you yourself—not with the help of a computer, and not with the help of anyone else.

On Saturday, March 20, 2027, we’ll invite the 50 winners and their parents to the Planetarium to receive their gift and place the drawings in the time capsule. The capsule will be re-opened on Saturday, March 21, 2076. Who knows—maybe you’ll be there too!

We promise not to disclose any of your personal information, as required by law. You, your parents, and your teacher can read the contest rules here: NL / FR .

We’re already looking forward to seeing your artwork!
